NEW DANCE STYLE Tuesdays/Thursdays Reggaetón is a musical genre that originated in Puerto Rico in the 1990s. Drawing from influences such as Jamaican reggae, dancehall and hip hop, it is blended with Latin rhythms. One of its most distinctive features is the iconic 'dembow' beat — that infectious rhythmic pattern which makes reggaetón so danceable. Reggaetón dancing is a very sensual and energetic style. It focuses on hip movements and body fluidity, and on connecting deeply with the rhythm. The dance invites improvisation and expression, and its ability to encourage people to enjoy the moment has made it a global phenomenon on dance floors around the world.
